Ann Voskamp wrote a book called “One Thousand Gifts.” It helps the reader better recognize all that God so richly provides for us and the power of gratitude to live fully and joyfully right where we are. A good exercise is to inventory in your mind or on paper all of the blessings God has given to you. As you do, you’ll notice that most of the things that you put on that list, as wonderful as they are will be temporal gifts. Now start at the foot of the cross and list out every eternal and spiritual blessing God has provided for you that will never be taken from you. If He has provided you with all of those eternal gifts, you can surely trust Him to provide the temporal things.
Reflection Question:
When you inventory your life, do you look more at what you have or what you lack?
Prayer:
Ask the Lord to give you eyes to see all the gifts He has provided—spiritually, relationally and materially.
